What are you doing tonight?

Hank the Tank

And just a few new photos of Hank the Tank when we took him for his first walk outside:

Hank the Tank goes for a walk!

Except it took him a long while to get warmed up to the great outdoors

In hindsight, a bunny on a leash is kind of a funny concept

He never did get used to the leash, but he did warm up to the grass

I don't like living in a country....

(offensively liberal post. you've been warned)

....where someone can be told they should just go die of cancer cuz this government doesn't like how they got here.

And it just goes to show...

That apparently law firms like contentious people: I got the call back at Law Firm D. Go figure.

It was bound to happen sometime

I finally did it. I had an offensively liberal moment during one of my interviews and totally pissed off my interviewer.

Scene: Conference Room in the Law School
Characters: Me and Young Partner with Law Firm D (for Denver)

YP: So, I see you majored in Comparative Politics. What is that?
M: Oh, it's a subset of the government major at Dartmouth. Basically, I ended up majoring in it because I was taking a lot of survey Latin America courses with a professor I liked that all fit into that concentration of the major.
YP: Yeah. But what is it? Like, do you compare other forms of government in Latin America to American government and to each other?
M: Yes. Basically that's pretty accurate.
YP: So. What's the best form of government?
M: Uhhhhh.... weeeeell..... [insert awkward laugh]
YP: [leans forward in his chair to make himself more intimidating] This is the point at which you say democracy.
M: Weeeeell.... I would say democracy, but I've gotta stick with my gut here and say that I just don't think it works everywhere. Especially in Latin America where you have a history of a lot of grass roots resistance to it.
YP: [shocked and angry] Well. I would say something. But we're not supposed to get into this sort of substance in our interviews.
M: [mentally crossing this firm off my list of firms I hope to get a callback at]

This guy went on to later stick my resume in front of me, point at my highlighted GPA, and say: "so. With these grades, why aren't you on law review?" I was like: "READ my flipping resume. I'm on a journal! If I'm not on law review, clearly it's because law review didn't want me. Thanks for bringing that up again. Ass."

Or, at least that was what I was like in my head. Out loud I think I lamely drew his attention to my list of activities and said I couldn't really account for why law review didn't want me, but clearly I had done the writing competition and so they rejected me and not the other way around.

No callback for Bagel at Law Firm D. Oh well.

Horoscope v. Reality

So classes have been in swing for three weeks now, and I thought I'd give a quick run down on my life. (Yes, I'm a vapid narcissist, I know, but maybe somebody out there is interested. ;) And if not, then you shouldn't be reading blogs anyway - cuz they are clearly the haven of card-carrying vapid narcissists.) But to make things more interesting, I thought I'd take my horoscope and comment on how accurately it does/does not mesh with Bagel-reality.

Something small catches your eye on Monday or Tuesday and gets you thinking about friends or family. It's a good time to repair relationships that have been unraveling for a while.
I think I call this the Hank the Tank shout out. He's tiny and ever since he came around, Courtney seems to pop up more and more, as well as rando other law school friends who we rarely see at our place. We didn't do anything all weekend but play with the bunny, which was very rewarding until we realized how poorly Hank is taking to litter training. Definitely got peed on this weekend all over my shoulders.

Watch out for a rebound later in the week, though, as unintended consequences pile up and require extra attention. You can handle them as long as you set aside the time.
Word on the street is that 2L year is the bitch of a year as far as being really, really busy. And so far, that's pretty dead on. In the first 3 weeks, I've had 4 different training sessions for my law journal, 13 on campus interviews with 3 left to go before callbacks start, classes and whatnot. I'm already behind in reading, but I think that's mostly cuz I'm still trying to stick to the anal-retentive 1L reading practices which are just barely feasible anymore. So this weekend is catchup time!

The weekend brings good emotional energy, but you may encounter opportunities that are too good to be true. Be wary and trust your intuition to guide you in the right direction.
No clue what this means, but it sounds like this weekend I might have to resort to my tried and trued "I am not a whore!" mantra.

I don't know who's to blame...

...but we may have a problem of impulsive shopping when we're stressed.

Meet Hank the Tank! The newest roommate in 2 Fischer 2C!
